This summer, we have had a lot of college students moving into our building. There are still some moving in. Some are college freshmen and some are fresh graduates with their first jobs. A lot of excitement in the air. You can just feel the fun in the air! Some freshmens' parents have been visiting them this Labor day weekend.

N & D have gone out bicycling around the county and playground-hopping! I went for a long walk and was coming home in the elevator with a freshman and his parents. The mom was so excited for her son's new experience, we wished each other hello and other pleasantries. Then she turns around and shares, "Your parents must be so thrilled that your school is nearby to walk to!" oh..the nearest school that's walking distance is the Washington-Lee HIGH SCHOOL!! There's a university campus close by but she thankfully clarified that it was the high school she was talking about when she saw my puzzled look!

:X I tried hard not to laugh, but politely said I am well past the age of high school. But I would be thrilled if my daughter can walk to her high school when she gets to that age!

Oh I am so used to this! But have to say that it's been a while since the last time I got asked which high school i went to!

When I was 23 years old and hanging out at Waikiki Beach well past midnight, the police would stop me ALL the time since there's a curfew of sorts for under 18s to be out that late! sigh. They wouldn't believe me and I would have to show my ID. And THEN we would all have a good laugh. Before I moved to downtown Honolulu, I lived in an area where the only bus stop was right by the high school. So, I was often questioned while I was by bus stop why I was skipping school, cops included! sigh.

Maybe when I am 40+ I might find this more amusing! OMG! That's in another three years!!!

Yesterday after a long day at the office, I headed back home on the metro as usual in the slight chill and drizzle that has put a glum on the week. All bundled up in a rain jacket, I headed to the metro. Even though it was slightly after the main rush hour, there still was no seat to be found. Pretty much everyone was in some form of office attire, except for me in my jeans and a top and this young teenage boy who looked maybe 13-14 years of age. I had stood in the aisle right next to him facing away, reading my book.

We pass by one station after I get on, and I feel a patting on my bag and a question, "Miss, would you like to have a seat?" I turn around baffled, this being my first experience being offered a seat to find the young teenage boy being the source of the question. I smiled and thanked him for the offer but didn't take the seat.

Later I was puzzled. Do I finally look my age or even older?! I ran to my husband and went, "Oh my God! I was offered a seat on the metro!!" He casually remarked, "you probably were the only lady around standing and so were offered a spot!" And I think back and remember that he was right, I was the only woman in the near vicinity of the kid. phew!

I went to a doctor this morning for a checkup and I just loved the assistant who takes your weight and blood pressure. Alice was her name. She was awesome. Okay, she complimented me that I don't look a day over 20 and remarked how little I am as I weighed in their old-fashioned scale where she had to shift the weight (what is this type of machine called, anyone know?)! In a world obsessed with image and weight I do forget that I am little albeit out of shape (literally). But I am little. :D I like reminders like that...

I watched Bride Wars yesterday. A movie I know N won't like and I just wanted to watch a mindless movie. Well, it was excellent for a mindless movie alright. I guess I am not a big fan of extravagant weddings and so didn't really get attached to the characters much and just thought the whole thing was silly. Did laugh here and there but yeah. The friend who suggested this also suggested the Confessions of a Shopaholic - I think I will pass on that too. RedBox is just so cool. Of course, that comes in after the public library that has all the recent releases... you just have to wait in a virtual queue for quite some time if the movie was a huge hit!

I have been making yummy salads for lunches the last two days. Hubby has been rather amusing. Before his trip, I warned him to stay away from salads as one can't be too sure of the water. His answer, "why would I have salads outside when you make the best ones?!" cute and smart.
