youthful looks
Aug. 30th, 2014 03:19 pmThis summer, we have had a lot of college students moving into our building. There are still some moving in. Some are college freshmen and some are fresh graduates with their first jobs. A lot of excitement in the air. You can just feel the fun in the air! Some freshmens' parents have been visiting them this Labor day weekend.
N & D have gone out bicycling around the county and playground-hopping! I went for a long walk and was coming home in the elevator with a freshman and his parents. The mom was so excited for her son's new experience, we wished each other hello and other pleasantries. Then she turns around and shares, "Your parents must be so thrilled that your school is nearby to walk to!" oh..the nearest school that's walking distance is the Washington-Lee HIGH SCHOOL!! There's a university campus close by but she thankfully clarified that it was the high school she was talking about when she saw my puzzled look!
:X I tried hard not to laugh, but politely said I am well past the age of high school. But I would be thrilled if my daughter can walk to her high school when she gets to that age!
Oh I am so used to this! But have to say that it's been a while since the last time I got asked which high school i went to!
When I was 23 years old and hanging out at Waikiki Beach well past midnight, the police would stop me ALL the time since there's a curfew of sorts for under 18s to be out that late! sigh. They wouldn't believe me and I would have to show my ID. And THEN we would all have a good laugh. Before I moved to downtown Honolulu, I lived in an area where the only bus stop was right by the high school. So, I was often questioned while I was by bus stop why I was skipping school, cops included! sigh.
Maybe when I am 40+ I might find this more amusing! OMG! That's in another three years!!!
