Virginia governor's race ended last night. A new governor was elected. If just this race was considered ugly and horrible, I can't imagine how ugly & bloody expensive the 2016 Presidential elections will be!
If my daughter ever tells me she wants to be a President, I would have to sit her down and share we just can't afford it. I guess this is where the Super PACs come in?!
It's funny though, super PACS and any money in politics is considered corruption and is illegal activity in India. (It happens plenty though). There's talk to legalize it so at least we will know who is giving whom what. And would reduce some of the corruption.
But why do we need to spend a billion dollars to get a president elected?! Horrible and ugly.

I think part of the reason we spend so much to get a president elected is that it matters that much. It may seem stupid, but there are now real differences between the two parties that can have very long-lasting results to one president over another (our ongoing economic crash, supreme court justices, etc.

It is an important process, I just wish it's not going to be whoever outspends the other will win. :S I have such trouble explaining to family/friends outside of the US.

For President, the people do run on their on to start with in the primaries, but most people who do that have already won office a number of times and have support from voters who may donate money to them along with the PACS (maybe.) The person who wins the most delegates in the primaries and caucuses normally becomes the nominee of the party at the nominating convention.
eh...it isn't always whoever outspends the other wins. That doesn't always happen nationally nor at local elections.
If you ever have questions, I tend to understand presidential elections pretty well. you can always ask!
